Grammy Voting Integrity

During the GRAMMY voting season, the Recording Academy emphasizes the importance of integrity among its voting members. They are expected to adhere to all guidelines concerning voting and solicitations, ensuring their decisions are based purely on the artistic and technical quality of the submissions.

  • Voters must rely solely on their personal judgment, uninfluenced by friendships, company affiliations, regional biases, or popularity.
  • Accepting money or other benefits in exchange for votes or member privileges is strictly forbidden.
  • Any form of arranged voting, including forming voting blocs with others or exchanging votes, is prohibited.
  • The Academy may take confidential corrective actions to ensure the integrity of the voting process.

Selecting GRAMMY Winners

Following the nomination announcement, a final ballot is distributed to all current Voting Members to determine the GRAMMY winners. An independent accounting firm confidentially tabulates all votes, including those from special committees. The outcomes of the final vote are kept secret until the GRAMMY Awards ceremony, where Deloitte presents the results in sealed envelopes.

Withdrawing a GRAMMY

If a GRAMMY is rescinded after it has been awarded, no GRAMMY is presented in that category for that year, as the process does not rank the nominees.

Policies for ‘For Your Consideration’ Events

Events, screenings, and advertisements that promote consideration for awards may occur outside the Recording Academy. However, specific data related to official Awards Categories, Fields, ballot entries, and final lists are confidential and owned by the Recording Academy. This information is not to be published, disclosed, or used in connection with any promotional activities.

FYC Marketing and Communication Guidelines

“For Your Consideration” (FYC) marketing efforts, such as emails, mailings, and ads, must always allow recipients to opt-out. These promotions should only pertain to the sender’s own work; promoting others’ work on their behalf is not allowed. Also, it’s important to be cautious of any vendors claiming to possess contact lists of Recording Academy members, as these are not officially provided by the Academy.

Content Allowed in FYC Communications:

  • Visuals relating to the considered product
  • Simple descriptions of the recording or its creators
  • Direct links to the product or promotional websites
  • References to GRAMMY nominations and awards, using the correct registered names

Prohibitions in FYC Communications:

  • Negative comments about other recordings
  • Overstatements about the music or achievements
  • Unauthorized use of Recording Academy trademarks or logos
  • Disclosure of entry or category numbers, chart positions, or sales data

Membership Benefits and Billboard Issue

Recording Academy members can opt out of receiving a complimentary copy of the Billboard GRAMMY Issue, which is managed by an external mailing service under strict confidentiality agreements.

Hosting and Attending FYC Events

FYC events must follow specific guidelines, prohibiting free meals or gifts that might influence voting. Members must pay full price for event tickets, and no group discounts or freebies are allowed for such events.

Direct Promotions to Academy Members

Promoting GRAMMY-eligible works through phone calls or by sending unsolicited materials to Academy offices is strictly forbidden.

Regulations on Marketing and Member Activities

The Recording Academy strictly controls how its intellectual property and member contact information are used in marketing. Additionally, products under GRAMMY consideration should not be the focal point of any Academy-hosted member activities during the voting period.
