Pop icon Madonna joins the BAYC family with a customized NFT!
On March 25th, Madonna, one of the biggest names in pop music to date, officially announced that she has finally entered the Metaverse with her very own customized ape by purchasing BAYC #4988 through Moonpay’s services, which has become standard practice for big celebrities. And what’s more interesting is that she took advantage of her IP rights over the NFT. She customized it even before sharing the news with the public.
I finally entered the MetaVerse…,……….. My very own Ape! 🦧 Thanks @moonpay 🪄 We all need protection from Evil Eye. 🧿 pic.twitter.com/We5p9iy4hS

Bored Ape Yacht Club has taken the spotlight on the crypto news the past week as Yuga Labs launched the APE token the week before, which pushed the floor price of the collection, and that was not a problem for Madonna to purchase BAYC #4988 for 180 ETH through Moonpay.eth. This cost the pop star about $466,072 at the time of the purchase.
Other than the newly purchased BAYC #4988, Madonna’s wallet currently contains 17 other NFTs, which were all transferred without payment, most probably fans are already starting to send NFT gifts to the pop star’s Ethereum address.
Now back to her own styled NFT, which she customized before publicly sharing it as she has taken full advantage of her rights as a BAYC NFT owner. The BAYC collection and all subsequent collections of the series grant owners full rights over the Intellectual Property (IP). This means that BAYC owners can use, change and customize their NFTs in any way they like.
We can clearly see below some significant differences between Madonna’s post and the original image shown in her portfolio.
She changed the background color to “New Punk Blue” instead of the original orange color, the eye shape and color, and removed the cigarette which the BAYC #4988 originally had as an attribute.
Madonna is not the first celebrity to take advantage of BAYC’s IP ownership perk and customize their NFT. Back in January actress Gwyneth Paltrow also revealed her entry into the BAYC family with a video featuring her BAYC #6141 removing its original hat and blindfold showing off her blond hairdo.
