How Do You Promote a Music Album?

Share With

Recording an album is quite a challenge. You’ve been through all that hustle and now it’s time to bring that hard work to fruition and show it to the world! Today we want to run you through how to promote your music album and doing it correctly. Make sure to follow these tips and your release is going to be doing just fine.

Pre-order Is Essential To Promote A Music Album

Setting up a pre-order for your album is the first step you have to take. You can get some buzz around your album by having it available ready for pre-order, and it will give you an opportunity to accept orders as soon as you begin promoting the release. As you start promoting your release at full speed, having the pre-order option out there will also give you a call-to-action for whatever interviews or press releases you might end up doing. For example, if someone hears the song on the radio, they can go ahead and pre-order your album right at that moment.

Promote The Music Album On Social Media

This might be very obvious but it’s, of course, worth mentioning. There are a lot of cool platforms out there and it’s all up to you to decide which one works best for you and your fans. It can be a little hard to understand what is a good way to start it, but let’s just focus on being yourself, and just tell your story. Never forget that you are your biggest marketing strategy. Sticking to your authentic self and your ideas are the best way to promote your music album. But, don’t be discouraged if you don’t get results right away – it takes a while to penetrate all the noise on social media.

“Some of the biggest bands in the world tend to have the biggest personalities, such as Liam Gallagher or Alex Turner. It is these personalities which can shine through and add something that little bit special to a band above and beyond the quality of their music.”

Start Off With A Single

Releasing a single along with a music video will create a buzz for the audience and work magic on promoting your upcoming album. Gather people around your single, collect their opinions, thoughts and ideas that will help you further down the road when you are going to promote the music album. It’s a very cool way to get your fans excited and might get you new fans as well. Make sure you include a call-to-action in the video description that will lead to a pre-order.

Get Your Platforms Ready

Set up your social media platforms so that they are ready for the upcoming release. The majority of your listeners are likely to find your music on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, Apple Music. You may also be able to attract new fans if one of your singles ends up on a popular playlist.

Get Familiar With Your Mailing List

Email marketing is one of the most effective ways to generate sales. Use your mailing list to blast out a dedicated email campaign with an easy call-to-action to buy and listen to your upcoming album. Make sure you include links in the campaign that lead directly to your online store and to all other platforms the album is available on.

Have A Press Kit

Make sure you have a press kit in hand so that you can send it over to media outlets whenever necessary. Even if they don’t require it, you can start off by sending it to them so that they know more about you and the thoughts you put into the album. It’s a quick and easy way for people to see all the important information about you in one place.

Get Your Music On The Radio

One of the most powerful marketing tools is the radio. Through cold calling multiple producers, you will be able to get a couple of interviews and live performances on the radio. First and foremost, when you do your research on radio stations and shows, make sure they fit your music, and that you know what you’re signing up for. If you’re a pop artist, make sure you’re not pitching your album to an alternative rock show. You’re only wasting your time (and the show’s too).

Get In Touch With Bloggers

Blogs are the best way to reach a wide audience. There are a lot of genre-specific blogs out there that are always on the lookout for new music to come. You can check out this Hype Machine’s index of music sites.  It’s an extremely important tool for researching blogs specific to your genre. Once you dig up some sites that suit your style and genre, make sure to read through them and find the right person to submit your music to.

Getting your music out there is not an easy task, but once you get started, make sure you have a strategy that will help you get there!
