Apple Music’s Analytics Platform is Already Helping Artists

Share With

Apple Music recently released to public its new analytics platform for artists, ‘Apple Music for Artists’ — officially out of beta and available to everyone.

Apple Music has been working on this tool part of the Apple Music for Artists creator platform for over a year now, their best weapon to compete with is Spotify’s services for artists.

The analytics dashboard tool is extremely important for artists to get informative data on how their music is performing across the globe, on one of the most important digital platforms, Apple Music.

We’ve listed the few steps you need to take in order to claim your Apple Music for Artists profile.

How To Claim Your Apple Music for Artists Profile

1- Go Here. Enter your Apple ID and Password.

2- Select the type of content you’d like to manage (choose the “Artists” section)

3- Click the ‘+’ link on the next screen.

4- Click ‘+’ on the next screen, and enter your iTunes Store artist page URL.

Enter your iTunes Store link rather than your artist’s name to prevent confusion when artists’ names are similar.

5- Select your role (artist, band member, manager, etc.) and fill out the required fields.

If you don’t have management or label contact information to provide, you can just put your personal contact information twice, in order to move to the next step.

6- Click “Done.”

Once you claim your profile you are all set up to enjoy all the opportunities Apple Music for Artists can give you! Here is a list of the main features offered by Apple Music for Artists.

3- Expand your understanding with details of trends over time

4- Discover which of your songs are getting Shazamed the most

Apple Music for Artists Insights

Overall plays, song purchases, radio spins, milestone badges, personal bests, and many other insights down to the city level in over 100 countries are now easily accessible via lists, or a visual heat map.

For example, if an artist is planning a tour, the heat map is a great way to easily visualize the cities and areas where he has the most listeners.

Basic audience insights like gender, age, cities where an artist’s music is being played, are all easily viewable, but two sets of data cannot cross-over. You can’t check how many 25–33 year-olds are streaming your track in Los Angeles. It leaves artists with bigger overviews only, without the ability to drill down into smaller segments of listeners’ group.

Many features were added to the previous version, such as the fact that it now exists on iOS app for iPhone, an important evolution that will allow artists to view their stats wherever they are.

New metrics have also been added, such as performance, music video views, daily listeners, and playlists-related information.

Shazam Integration

Of course, the integration of Shazam is also one of the most interesting additions to the new Apple Music for Artists tool, thanks to Apple’s recent acquisition of the massively-used recognition app. It allows users/artists to access their Shazam data, with insights for top shazamed cities and countries. This can turn out to be extremely useful when it comes to deciding which tracks to push for an artist, as some tracks might not have that many plays, but are shazamed a lot, meaning listeners are showing a growing interest in the song.

The main goal is to give artists the data they need to allow them to make the right decisions regarding their music’s promotion strategy, by capturing listeners’ behavior in a different way than searching for a specific artist or song.

Spotify For Artists Vs Apple Music For Artists

1- We’ve compared Spotify for artists and Apple music for artists, and here are the main differences and similarities between the features they offer.

2- Spotify For Artists and Apple Music For Artists are both created for artists and their management, but not specifically for labels.

3- Spotify Analytics, on the other hand, is made for labels with multiple-artist
rosters.

4- Apple Music For Artists offers the most features for user-generated reports and comparisons. Spotify For Artists offers the most individual metrics for artists.

5- Spotify For Artists offers greater artist page customizability and flexibility.

6- Spotify also sends out regular notifications about playlist adds and audience milestones.

It’s hard to decide which one is better, as they both offer very similar features. Artists should choose the best suited for their marketing strategy, or simply choose both!
