Born Radric Davis, the future hip-hop icon was writing rhymes in elementary school – by the time he entered high school, he’d already begun recording material, inspired by old-school rappers like Big Daddy Kane. His debut album Trap House peaked at No 1 on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart, with the lead single ‘Icy’ swiftly becoming a nationwide hit. The Gold-certified record that followed, The State vs. Radric Davis, preceded an array of mixtapes that confirmed his status as an equally prolific and talented artist with seemingly limitless confidence and ability.
The decade that followed saw Gucci continue to issue new releases at a dizzying rate while working with a cast of high-profile collaborators. After inviting Kanye West, Drake and Young Thug to feature on his ninth studio album Everybody Looking, he dropped his tenth full-length project a few months later: 2016’s Guwop featured Travis Scott, Young Dolph and Rick Ross, and scored the rapper his first Billboard No 1 with the Rae Sremmurd collaboration ‘Black Beatles’. In recent years, Gucci has been progressively strengthening his already legendary status within American trap and hip-hop, recording his thirteenth studio album Evil Genius in 2018 while making time to contribute to Billboard Top 10 singles from Migos, Jay Sean, Selena Gomez, Desiigner and T-Pain.
