Ja Rule Featured In Upcoming Documentary On White-Collar Crime

“White Collar Convicts: Life on the Inside” features a segment of Ja Rule talking about former Tyco CEO Dennis Kozlowski and their time together in the same lockup facility.

Ja Rule will be featured in the upcoming CNBC documentary White Collar Convicts: Life on the Inside.

According to CNBC’s press release, the “one-hour documentary, reported by correspondent Andrew Ross Sorkin, goes behind prison walls to capture the raw experience of convicted CEOs and other corporate swindlers who are doing time.”

During the trailer for the documentary, Ja Rule discusses former Tyco CEO Dennis Kozlowski and their time together in the same lockup facility.

“I don’t think he knew, but I guess people briefed him on who I was,” Ja Rule says. “Me and Koz actually met, and he introduced himself to me and he said, ‘I hear you’re the rapper guy’ and I said, ‘Yeah, that’s me. I hear you’re the billionaire [laughs].’”

CNBC describes Kozlowski as someone who “went from earning more than $100 million a year as chief of Tyco to 85 cents an hour working at the prison laundry.”

“Koz basically stuck to himself,” Ja Rule adds. “I understand that because in prison, people befriend you for the wrong reasons sometimes. It’s such a thing what we call in prison, we call it ‘friendly extortion.’”

Ja Rule began serving his two-year sentence for illegal gun possession in 2011 and was released in 2013.

Following his release from prison, Ja Rule spoke about some of the inmates he spent time withwhile behind bars.

“I was there with [former Tyco International CEO] Dennis Kozlowski, [former New York state comptroller] Alan Hevesi, Larry Salander, the art tycoon,” Ja Rule said at the time. “They were all good guys… Dennis, me and him spoke once in awhile; he didn’t really interact too much with a lot of inmates, but me and him spoke.”

White Collar Convicts: Life on the Inside airs on Wednesday, April 29 at 10PM ET/PT.
