The Fugees’ Pras Donated $1.2 Million To Super PAC

The Fugees member has also been producing films.

The Fugees member Pras Michel hasn’t released album in 10 years, but he did find a way to back Obama in 2012, according to Slate.

The rapper used his own LLC to legally donate $1.2 million to super PAC Black Men Vote, while maintaining his anonymity. He found a hole in the fabric of the super PAC transparency clause. Pras never actually had to reveal his identity at all, according to federal law.

Black Men Vote targeted politically uninterested black males between the ages of 18-34.

Beyond his donations, Pras produced six movies since 2007. Pras just premiered a documentary called Sweet Micky For Prezidan. It follows the controversial 2012 campaign of Haitian pop music star Sweet Micky, a campaign that Michel encouraged Micky to embark upon.

“I was just thinking, ‘Man, there’s an election coming up and I just need to do something. I need to support someone who can come in there and energize the people,'” Pras says.

Sweet Micky, who now goes by his birth name Michel Martelly, has been the president of Haiti since 2011.

“It’s just so ridiculous,” Pras says. “It’s just one of the most ridiculous stories ever.”
